How Does Koala AI Writer Work?
Want to see Koala AI in action?
I used the free Koala AI account to generate a listicle (because the old blog articles are boring and cliche). The main topic was “Best Web Hosting for Small Businesses” and I left it on Koala to come up with an attractive title.
Here are some more settings that I applied
#1. Chose the LLM Model
Currently, Koala offers the following LLMs:
- GPT-4o Mini (Free)
- GPT-4o (Premium)
- Claude 3.5 Sonnet (Premium)
Being a free user, it’s needless to say that I went for the first one – GPT-4o Mini.
#2. Selected Article Type, Target Keyword, List Numbering Format, List Item Prompt & Some Other Information
- Article Type — Blog Post, Listicle, Amazon Product Review, Rewrite Blog Post, etc.
- Target Keyword — I entered, “Best Web Hosting for Small Businesses”.
- List Numbering Format — It’s basically how you want the list numbers to appear. Such as 1:, 2:, 3: or 1), 2), 3), etc.
- List Item Prompt — A general instruction that will apply to every list item. I left the default, “only write a max of 200 words”.
- Enable Supplemental Information — This adds 1-3 relevant section the end of article. I turned this option on because I didn’t want the article to end abruptly. Not good for readability.
- Enable Automatic Length — Since it’s a listicle, it requires how many list items should be included. If Koala doesn’t pick it from the title, it will default to 10. I left it opened and didn’t give any number in the main title as well so I ended up with 10 list items.
- Automatic Internal Linking — Available for paid users only so couldn’t do anything here. This option inserts internal links to your articles. All you have to do is provide your target domain.
- AI Images & YouTube Videos — Again, available to the premium users only so I had to leave it at NONE.
- Tone of Voice — I chose the default, SEO Optimized (Confident, Knowledgeable, Neutrl and Clear). Other options are, Friendly, Excited, Professional, Formal and Casual. If you want to set your own tone then you can also select, Custom.
- Language — I chose English. Duh!
- Country — The country that you want to rank for. Koala will optimize the article for this country. Such as the real-time data, FAQs, etc.
- Point of View — Writes article from either First, Second or Third Person’s point of view. I chose, First Person (I, me, my, mine) for more relatability and to make the article more personal.
- Use Real Time Data — Available for paid users only.
- Use Outline Editor — Generates an article structure before writing the article. I turned it off.
- Include FAQ Section — Available for paid users only.
- Improve Readability — Simplifies the tone and shortens the sentences to simplify it even for 8-graders. I turned this option on.
- Extra Title Prompt — Extra instructions for the title. I used, Use a clickbaity, engaging and SEO Friendly title.
- Extra Section Prompt — Left it blank. This is the instruction for each section of the article.
- Extra Introduction Prompt — Extra instructions for the intro section. I gave the following instructions: Should be engaging right from the get go and clearly gives away the value that readers will gain from reading the article.
After setting up everything in order, I hit the Generate button.
#3. The Result
While I was expecting a full-blown article ready to be posted to my blog, I was slapped by an unexpected error. A 500-words limit for each article.
While Koala’s free account allows you to generate 5000 words of content on a monthly basis, it doesn’t let you go beyond 500 words per article. The reason they tell is the abuse that many free users started to do.
Anyway, still, I had ample amount of data to figure out if Koala AI is really worth its salt.
Here’s the result that I got.
As you can see that from the content quality perspective, Koala AI’s has churned out a high-quality piece. The use of pronouns and the flow is good and the content is divided into digestible chunks of simple paragraphs. Just as I instructed.
So, as far as this aspect is concerned, Koala AI did follow my instructions to the T.
However, when I saw another aspect, I noticed that Koala failed to use proper numbering system. In fact, it didn’t even numbered the first two items in the list at all.
Moreover, the title could be a lot better. From SEO perspective.
For instance, instead of, “3 Best Web Hosting for Small Businesses: Unlock Your Online Potential Today!” I believe “3 Best Web Hosting for Small Businesses in 2024” would do a lot better. It’s succinct and has all the elements of getting Google favoring it over the former.
So, that certainy needs improvement.
Does Koala Bypasses AI Content Detectors?
Before starting this section let me get this straight.
I’ve always maintained that Google doesn’t give a two hoots if a content is written by an AI. As long as it’s providing value, Google will look the other way.
Having said that, it also doesn’t hurt walking the extra mile to making sure that your article bypasses AI Content Detectors.
So I went ahead, fed the above article into 3 prominent AI Content Detectors and guess what!?
All 3 of them marked it as 100% written by AI. Such as:
1. Scribbr
2. CopyLeaks
3. QuillBot
These 3 basic case studies show that at least, in my case, Koala AI couldn’t game the AI Detectors.
Koala AI Pricing — How Much Does It Cost?
Koala offers 6 distinct pricing tiers and 3 extra tiers if you want to scale your content.
Just like other AI Tools, what you end up paying at the end of the month depends mainly on the annual or monthly plans.
Here are the different pricing options available along with the respective features:
- Essentials — $9/month or $7/month (for annual plans)
- Starter — $25/month or $20/month (for annual plans)
- Professional — $49/month or $39/month (for annual plans)
- Boost — $99/month or $79/month (for annual plans)
- Growth — $179/month or $143/month (for annual plans)
- Elite — $350/month or $280/month (for annual plans)
If you’re looking for a solution at an Enterprise level then Koala has the options for you as well:
- Scale I — $750/month or $600/month (for annual plans)
- Scale II — $1,250/month or $1,000/month (for annual plans)
- Scale III — $2,000/month or $1,600/month (for annual plans)
